Gwen Olsen spent fifteen years as a pharmaceutical sales rep working for such healthcare giants as Johnson & Johnson, Bristol-Myers Squibb, and Abbott Laboratories. She enjoyed a successful, fast-paced career until several conscious-altering experiences began awakening her to the dangers lurking in every American medicine cabinet. Her most poignant lessons, however, came as both victim and survivor of life-threatening adverse drug reactions. After leaving pharmaceutical sales in 2000, Gwen worked in the natural foods industry first as an Account Manager for Nature’s Way, and then as a Regional Sales Manager for Gaia Herbs. She is currently a writer, speaker, and natural health consultant.
The United States health care system is killing Americans at an alarming rate, even though we spend over fifteen percent of the Gross National Product (GNP) on health care. According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, our health care outcomes ranked only fifteenth among twenty-five industrialized nations worldwide. Adverse effects from prescription drugs have become the third-leading killer of Americans. Only heart disease and cancer claim more lives. We trust our doctors to inform us and our government to protect us from medical malfeasance that may put profits ahead of consumer health and safety. Deep respect to give up your carrier and speak about this so openly. To me it is just a matter of knowledge, self education and comparison. Knowledge leads to wisdom, wisdom to freedom. We’re obviously programmed to believe that these companies deliver us stuff that really enhances the quality of our lives. Since I discovered how Cannabis can cure cancer, in contrast with the programmed opinion of many people about this plant, I really start to doubt big pharmacy.

I have not taken anything other then pain killers after injury or anti-biotics for infection control. Will never see a doctor for any type of metabolic problem. I wish I could be given control of all the nursing homes. I would have 90% of patients in a normal state within a year.

I guess they make the withdraw of meds to be very painful and sickening on purpose just so you get back on them – like how heroin works.
I am on anti-depressants, and when I accidentally miss a dose – I get REALLY sick within 1 day of the missed dose – and this painful sickness can last for many days, but to stop the suffering – I get back on the medicine…. I now spend a lot of energy in trying hard to remember to take the meds because if I don’t – I get sick…. f u big-pharma.

I’m a nurse and for years it has seen to me that the health industry wasn’t interested in making their patients well…. if they did, they wouldn’t have the mansions to go home to.
Myself as a patient, I felt things were really lacking. When it becomes very blatant that my doctor is just making money… in and out of the exam room if less than 5 min and checking his watch while “giving me care” I fire and find a new one. I want a doc that is working for me, and not making mansion payments.

That’s an interesting perspective… the reason there is still no cure for HIV some 25 years later, even though we can reduce replication of the virus to “virtually” nothing is that anti-retrovirals (HAART) which HIV patients MUST continue taking indefinitely cost an average of $1500 a month when generics (without the “r&d investment”) are less than $100 a year! If you’re Abbot Labs, do you want to cure HIV or do you want to sell lots of Kaletra forever?
